Connectivism Overview and Connections to Teaching
Week 5
Overview
This week, we learned about Connectivism, a contemporary learning theory highlighting technology and interconnected networks created in 2004 and introduced in 2005 by theorists and researchers George Siemens and Stephen Downes.
Connections to Teaching and Learning
This learning theory also emphasizes digital literacy, self-directed learning, and the relevancy of one's critical thinking processes. When studying this learning theory, you will find that just like Constructivism, Connectivism's core lies in social interactions and collaborations at the center of it all within a digital world. Like Constructivism, Connectivism believes that the learner is responsible for creating and building their knowledge and learning through meaningful experiences with a more knowledgeable person (expert) as a guide.
