Robert Gagné, Behaviorism, and Instructional Design
We also delved into Robert Gagné's work on Gagné's Nine Events of Instruction, a robust framework. This framework, which applies classical and operant conditioning, complex operant conditioning, learning by responding differently to different stimuli, learning a general response to specific stimuli, rule learning (chain of two or more concepts), and application of previous knowledge to new situations, holds immense potential to inspire and excite you about its application in your instructional design work while applying all the key and relevant elements of behaviorism as a valuable learning theory. When instructional designers apply this learning theory to their work with purpose, they can provide engaging and effective learning experiences that cater to the learner's unique needs and areas of growth (like, for example, the gamification of learning and rewards).
